Sondrio - Monte Salute. Regeneration of the former Sondrio Psychiatric Hospital, the centrepiece of a new vision for integrated policies

A strategy that aims to transform a place of confinement into a space for meeting and care for the whole community. It offers the opportunity to create and test new social infrastructure (collaborative housing services, residential centres for people with disabilities, post-diploma training services, hospitality services for experiential tourism) designed by a mix of public and private entities.

The strategy promoted by the Municipality of Sondrio focuses on the material and immaterial regeneration of the former Sondrio Psychiatric Hospital to create integrated infrastructure and services for the population of the entire province. The buildings in the former psychiatric hospital area are being renovated to create: social and health services and infrastructure; accommodation facilities managed through the activation of training and inclusion programmes for vulnerable individuals; innovative housing facilities to support social needs (co-housing). There are also measures to support youth entrepreneurship linked to post-diploma training courses.

The Municipality of Sondrio is the lead partner in a vast partnership network involving ASST Valtellina e Alto Lario, ATS della Montagna, the Province of Sondrio and the Chamber of Commerce, as well as a large group of third sector organisations.
